In a small village, a family with a special needs son was struggling as their home sank into the muddy ground. The floors were caving in, and the structure was falling apart. But through faith, generosity, and a shared commitment to lifting others up, we had the privilege of helping rebuild not just a house, but hope itself.
This journey began with Patrona, a pastor’s wife who had once been a patient at Brian’s dental clinic. As the wife of a local pastor, she had been a light in her community. When my husband, Brian, met her in the dental clinic, she was in need of critical care. He performed pro bono surgery to help her, and in return, she opened her heart and home to us. When we were invited back to her village, we saw the desperate need of this family and knew we had to help. We helped restore their home—creating a safe, sturdy space where they could thrive.
Beyond the construction, some of the most meaningful moments happened with the children. In a spare room of the home, I shared stories of Jesus with them, and earlier that day, we ran and laughed together playing soccer.
Today, this family has a home they can count on, and Patrona’s faith continues to inspire her village. For us, this experience was a reminder that love, service, and community will always be the strongest foundation of all.
